WHAT TO EXPECT

Our Liturgy

Every Lord’s Day (Sunday), we gather to worship the Triune God. Worshiping God is what we were created for and is the highlight of our week.  At Providence, we seek to worship God in the manner He has prescribed in Scripture.

With this in mind, the elements of our worship service include the reading and preaching of God’s Word (1 Tim. 4:13; 2 Tim. 4:2), prayer (Phil. 4:6; Col. 4:2 1 Tim 2:1), singing (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16), and administering the sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Matt. 28:19; 1 Cor. 11:23-29).

Our liturgy organizes these elements of worship as a dialogue between God and His people. God speaks to us through His Word and sacraments, and we respond with prayer, praise, confession, profession of faith, giving, and commitment.

Below is the worship liturgy of Providence Presbyterian Church with a brief explanation of each element of worship.

The Lord’s Supper

Our church partakes of the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of each month. We welcome to the table all baptized Christians who are trusting in Christ alone for their salvation, have made a public profession of their faith, and are accountable to a church where the Gospel is proclaimed. We offer both wine and grape juice in the communion tray.  If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Roy

Music

The music we sing at Providence is a blend of old and new. We love the doctrinally rich hymns of the sixteenth century, and we find blessing in the choruses of the twenty-first. We strongly prefer congregational singing, which emphasizes the gathered body singing praise to God with one voice, over performed music, which tends to spotlight the abilities of some while encouraging passivity in the rest. The majority of our songs come from the Trinity Psalter Hymnal and the Sing! Hymnal.

Your Children

We are a church that values all generations and age groups being present in worship together, including children. While your kids may not intellectually grasp everything that goes on, their hearts are being formed by participating in the weekly act of worship. In other words, children learn how to worship by worshiping with the congregation Sunday after Sunday. Therefore, we are not concerned about the little noises that typically come from these little ones. We do have a cry room available, where the worship service can be seen and heard if those noises get too distracting. We also offer childcare for children 4 and under on an as-needed basis. Please contact the church to schedule childcare.
